Urge passage of the Puppy Uniform Protection Statute to Help Stop Puppy Mills
Currently, only facilities that breed dogs for sale through pet stores are required to be licensed and inspected. But thanks to a gap in the law, puppy mills that sell directly to the public are exempt from any federal regulation. Internet sellers and other outlets sell thousands of puppies a year to unsuspecting consumers.
Female breeding dogs in puppy mills are typically forced to live their entire lives in small cages with no opportunity for exercise, socialization, or human interaction. Due to neglect, their puppies are often sick, leaving outraged consumers with frail, sometimes dying puppies and high vet bills.
This law would curb the worst abuses in the puppy mill industry. It’s a much-needed upgrade to our nation’s laws that protect man’s best friend from cruelty and harm. Ask your legislators to suuport this.
Eliminate the Cruel Confinement of Farm Animals
Farm animal welfare is of increasing concern to members of the public, including myself, and my friends, family and neighbors. We have been happy to see laws passed in several states to eliminate the cruel confinement of farm animals, and to allow them at least enough room to stand up, lie down, turn around, and extend their limbs.
Please write you state legislators to encourage them to consider introducing similar legislation this session to ban battery cages for egg-laying hens, gestation crates for pregnant pigs, and veal crates for young calves. Such legislation would help prevent needless animal suffering, and please the majority of your constituents.

BAN THE USE OF ANIMALS BY THE MILITARY in TRAUMA and CHEMICAL TRAINING
PETA is currently urging the U.S. Department of Defense to stop shooting, burning, poisoning, cutting the limbs off, and killing goats, pigs, and monkeys in horrific military training exercises and to use available non-animal methods instead—and you can help. Numerous medical experts—including a leading Harvard Medical School physician, a retired Navy head-trauma primate experimenter, a decorated trauma surgeon who served two tours in Iraq, and others—are supporting our effort to end the military’s use of animals in these cruel and outdated training programs.
Please take action now by politely urging your Congressional representative to contact the Secretary of the Army and the Army Surgeon General to insist that they ban the military’s use of animals in trauma- and chemical-casualty training courses, which would spare thousands of animals from suffering and death.

Keep genetically engineered animals off the dinner plate!
The Food and Drug Administration recently released its draft plan for approving animals that are genetically engineered to grow faster, produce more milk, or even produce drugs in their tissues. To make matters worse, the FDA is not requiring that food from GE animals be labeled, so consumers won’t know if the food they buy for their families was produced with this controversial technology. Tell Congress To Stop Funding Nicotine And Tobacco Experiments On Animals
Every year in the U.S., at least hundreds (if not thousands) of animals are harmed and killed in experiments to test the effects of nicotine and tobacco.
Conservatively, at least $47 million has been spent on this category of research under the National Institutes of Health for 2008. These inhumane and costly animal experiments, which have spanned decades, have failed to yield any real results to address the problem of smoking in adults or its effects on developing babies and children.
We believe this is a gross misappropriation of precious health care dollars, not to mention animals’ lives. please go to http://gaO.org/campaign/Congress_Nicotine.
DO YOU BELIEVE ANIMALS DESERVE BASIC LEGAL RIGHTS?
Deprived of legal protection, animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans. Through the Animal Bill of Rights, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is working to show Congress a groundswell of support for legislation that protects animals and recognizes that, like all sentient beings, animals are entitled to basic legal rights in our society.
More than a quarter-million Americans have already signed the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Bill of Rights. Sign on your support and speak out to your lawmakers today!

11th-Hour Assault on Wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies!
With the clock running out on the Bush/Administration, federal officials have launched a final attempt to ram through a plan that could lead to the slaughter of as many as two-thirds of the Greater Yellowstone and Northern Rockies wolf population.
Please fill out the form at www.savewolves.org to urge U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to go back to the drawing board and come up with a balanced and responsible management plan for our wolves. Comments will be collected by Defenders and submitted on your behalf.
Abuse of Pigs on Hog Farms is Systemic in the Industry Please Take Action!
In three months at the pig factory farm, PETA investigators documented that workers used metal gate rods and hard canes to beat sows. Pigs were poked in the eyes with clothespins and fingers for no reason at all, and workers and supervisors beat pregnant pigs. One supervisor even told our investigator, “You gotta beat on the bitch. Make her cry.”
Baby piglets who were deemed too small to be profitable were slammed head first onto the concrete floor in an attempt to kill them, although some lingered alive for more than 12 minutes after the impact. More than 100 heavily pregnant pigs were denied water for five days, and injured and downed pigs were left for days and even weeks without veterinary care or an end to their suffering Go to this website and fill out a quick form with your objections to this horror. http://www.hormelfoods.com/contact.aspx
STOP testing on animals!
Dogs are poisoned by toxic pesticides.
Mice are put in water chambers and forced to swim until they drown from exhaustion.
Rabbits have chemicals poured into their eyes.
Pigs are shot and burned by the U.S. Army for medical trainings.
Monkeys have metal screws drilled into their skulls.
These experiments are not only cruel but also unreliable, dangerous, and bad science. We know that non-animal tests are less expensive and that they are better at protecting human health. The U.S. government’s own scientific advisory board, the National Academy of Sciences, has concluded that many animal tests are useless and should largely be replaced by superior non-animal test methods. But even with that recommendation, animal testing continues, and animals whose minds and bodies are being shattered in laboratories desperately need our help.
People of conscience have always opposed needless and cruel experiments on animals, but thanks to PETA’s hard work and the dedication of our supporters, animal testing has been laid bare as junk science—of no benefit to anyone except the profiteers who make money from it.
When you give during the “Stop Animal Testing” Challenge, your donation will be worth twice as much to PETA and the animals they are working tirelessly to save. www.PETA.org
Is Animal Compassion A Faith Issue?
The petition purpose statement reads “As people from diverse religious traditions, we are united in our belief that animals have intrinsic value as part of God’s creation and are entitled to live lives free of cruelty and exploitation. We therefore invite and encourage people of all faiths to speak with one voice on behalf of those who cannot speak in an effort that will define our legacy as stewards of God’s creation.”

STOP AERIAL HUNTING OF WOLVES
Close loophole to stop aerial hunting of wolves in Alaska. Wolf opponents in Idaho and Wyoming are eager to follow Alaska’s cruel example. Hundreds of wolves could be killed in the Northern Rockies if these states get their way. Please sign the petition to save America’s wolves and end aerial hunting
